My gorgeous Jampea!
So I got this guy a little while back... When I got him he had a TERRIBLE RI and mouth infection... and when I say mouth infection, he had GASHES in his upper lips on BOTH sides that had become infected.... How, I have no idea... I can't even fathom how he could have gotten injuries like that... Well, he took a trip to the vet, unfortunately I couldn't get pics of his injuries because Ryan was at his training in California and I was NOT about to hold his head and take pics by myself, lol...
Anyways... After a round of baytril, a nice hot cage and fresh newspaper just about every day, he got better... I gave him a rat after he was treated and he gave me a decent shed... He got a nice 3lb bunny 4 days ago and I came home tonight to see him all GORGEOUS and bright!!! His gums are nice, bright, pink and healthy now and he's apparently thanking me with his GORGEOUS colors!!! This is the first time I've seen him look this good!! I'm happy!! It's amazing what a little proper care can do for an animal......
(he likes to dump his water, btw... which is why his paper is wet -_-)

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
thanks the vet said his mouth was the worst he's ever seen wasn't even mouth rot or anything like that either. I watched him clean out the gashes and it was bad I felt terrible for the poor guy.
I also learned that even a dwarf, full grow is a major force to reckon with LOL. the little vet tech girl was kinda useless in helping hold him LOL. the vet held his head looking in his mouth while I LITERALLY laid across his body trying to hold him down lol. I'm not a small person and even with all my body weight and effort he was still giving me a really good fight lol. felt like I was in a wrestling match! lol. so anyone that thinks they can handle a dwarf by themselves to do whatever they need to do needs to think again lol. they are still crazy strong and can do some damage! especially because they don't realize that you are just trying to help them. all they know is that it hurts and you are making it worse I'm glad I had help with giving him his shots as well LOL. he didn't like those either.
but it pays off when they are all better and pretty like this

Fabulous looking snakey and a great job you are doing!
The gashes in his mouth are probably from rat bites, if he was being fed live prey before you got him.

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
Good deed...its reassuring that there are positive people willing to pick up the slack from others assinine behaviors...is he full grown? I think that I might be able to handle basic care and such of an 11 foot snake, but thats probably even pushing it...what do you think?

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
he is full grown... Basic care is one thing... As long as you get one from a baby and HOOK TRAIN!!! This guy is NOT hook trained at all... he freaks out when the hook touches him... I'm working on it, but yea... He is fairly easy to handle once we actually get him out, lol... Deff. don't underestimate them though! He is crazy strong! And I still don't recommend trying to take care of them by yourself... My hubby or someone else is always here when I take him out... It only takes one time for one of these guys to get around your neck, and if there isn't someone else there to help, you can be screwed... I think around 8ft is the limit that I need some help with, lol

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
Thanks....yeah, I understand exactly how strong one could be...my girlfriend is not scared of my kids, but I dont want to keep a snake that takes two to necessarily handle...I understand the rule of two and I dont think that is an issue, becasue I definitley repect a snake of that size...Im not a small guy, 6'5 and 250lbs and I still realize that a sweet retic like yours could easily over power me...I need to continue to warm Lauren up I guess.

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
haha, yea deff. get her on board before you get one... I'm hoping that my mainland retic, Haze, stays well tempered like she is now... I've had her since she was TINY and now she's about 6-7ft and still the sweetest thing ever... I have also handled her a lot and taught her "manners" and hook training since she was small... Which is really what you gotta do with any large snake... She's gonna be a big girl, and I'm sure I'll be comfortable with her more so then the 2 big boys I have, but I know it's still possible that she could get an attitude, and once she's bigger, even my little sweetie will require 2 ppl, lol

First off my brother is not all that informed when It comes to keeping retics. He has only been keeping them a couple of months. The snake was never fed live only F/T, so the gashes in his mouth might have came from him striking the glass of his enclosure. As for the RI, I don't know how that could have happened. And as far as the hook training, my brother was in the starting phase of that. So please remember: Wise men speak because they have something to say; fools, because they have to say something.

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
what kind of cage was he in? do you happen to know? cause I haven't had him strike at all since he's been here... I imagine if he was rubbing or something that may have caused the mouth issue... But who knows... At least he wasn't bitten by a rat, that's good to know... And I'm surprised the previous/original owner never hook trained... cause he deff. HATES the hook, lol

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
That snake was kept in a 4ft X 30in X 18in melemine cage. I have personally seen that jamp strike at the glass as well as push on the glass trying to get out. I beleive that the strikes were food driven, as he has a very high feed responce. And the pushing I believe was the result of being in the same room as adult females. That snake was recieved from a breeder that mainly used him as a breeder. There was no assinine behaviors on my brother's part, he truly loved that animal. That snake never missed a meal and always gave perfect sheds.

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
well the breeder thing makes sense with not being trained I guess... and it's possible he could have been rubbing due to females in the room... I don't have any mature female pythons here so maybe that's why he hasn't rubbed here...

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
not starting drama, but didn't you (retic virus) have a 'tic with a horrible RI with blood in the mucous and you said it was "fine" after one round of antibiotics?

Re: My gorgeous Jampea!
If you didn't want to start drama, then you wouldn't have asked the question. But yes I did, the vet also found out that the blood was cause by some broken teeth, not the RI. It was an albino tiger that was shipped to me with the RI
