Size is the biggest difference. You don't say male or female *what*, so I'll assume you're talking colombian boas. Females get bigger -- aside from a bigger snake, this means a bigger cage and bigger (more $) food. Beyond that, there's not that much to it. In my limited experience, I've found males are a little more active, a little more intense in their explorations outside the cage, and a little bit jumpier when approached -- but not much. They're all pretty calm, if they've been raised right. Females are big and slow and easy-going. Usually. Anyway, I think your biggest consideration is the size thing. You can get a male and be pretty sure you'll never really need a cage bigger than 4x2, although there are exceptions. A female stands a pretty good chance of getting a little big for that. Anyway, good luck. They're both enjoyable pets.

Depending on genetics, a male can max out on average between 5½ to 7 feet in length, females from 6 to 9. There will of course be exceptions, with some reported instances of males at 12 feet and females at 15.
Another big difference in size between males and females is girth. You'll find that the females get quite a bit bigger around than the males will.
