nicaraguan boa

Ok so a made a post recently about my newly purchased hog island boa which i quickley came to realize that it is not a hog at all. I am starting to really think its a Nicaraguan Boa, many people said its just a normal BCI but i dont think so, and also the previouse owner said it was done growing and he is only 4 feet, so that kinda rules out BCI. Here are some new better pics let me know what you guys think.

Re: nicaraguan boa

If by "normal BCI", they meant Colombian, I'd say certainly not. I think the Nics are BCI as well though. Can't say for sure about the locale, but definitely looks like a Central American dwarf of some sort.

Re: nicaraguan boa

It could very well be a nicaraguan. I have babies that look like yours without the speckles. Could also be a mix of central american. Tough to tell exactly, someone told you it was a Hog? Hmmm.... Maybe they meant Hog cross, although most of those seems to produce lighter colored boas.

Is it a male?

Re: nicaraguan boa

THat is a really really cool animal. I said in a post a short while ago that I don't think you can correctly identify an animal unless there was legit collection data. That being said it does look a lot nicaraguan, but also maybe some tarahumara with colors that rich, and with the high pattern density.

It's hard to tell, but again, I just love that snake.

Definitely not a Hog or a Hog cross. Beautiful though! I love the irridescent sheen of her scales!

Re: nicaraguan boa

Caulker cays, hog islands, corn islands, and all of the other fun dwarfs [minus pearl islands] are BCI.

I am also worthless at identifying boas, but it is definitely a cute one!

Re: nicaraguan boa

It's just a normal Central American Bci of some sort. So using a good Colombian boa caresheet or any other Bci caresheet would be fine.

Re: nicaraguan boa

You can use the same care sheet as a Colombian b.ci. but you may need to tweak some things to your snake's likings. Basically, the farther away from the equator...the cooler the climate. My Nics seem to like their cages a little cooler and more humid than my Colombians. I have heard that Sonorans like it slightly cooler than the nics.

There is really no way to say definitively what "locale" your boa is just by looking. The best you can get is an educated guess. Even locale specific breeders will tell you, they can only give their best guess.

He's got quite the lump on his head in that second-last shot... might wanna take a closer look at that, just in case it's an abcess of some kind.

I was planning on getting a BCI, but I'm leaning more towards a nicarauguense boa

My nics are much more comfortable with a hidebox, they can sometimes be aggressive without one. Some of mine will use the hidebox as a perch to ambush prey too. See if your nic is active at night. Mine start getting restless around dusk and will be on the move for a few hours after. If yours does seem to move much at night you may need to change the hot or cool side temp.

I keep my babies at 82 degrees (ambient) with a hot side of 86-87.

For the adults, I have them at 82 ambient also (that's the snake room temp) but they're hot sides range from 88-90.

I don't have a guage for my humidity. I spray them down every few days. Moreso in the winter because my house is very dry then.

I have about 30 nics (at present time) ranginging in age/size from 08 babies to an 4-5 year old 5' female (mom to the babies). My oldest male is 4 years old and about 42" long.

I've noticed that a lot of farmed nics have lumpy heads...damage done during either on the farm or from shipping.
