please do not dig up old topic's from more then 3-4 months past it's pointless...also please do not doublepost (ie ost the same exact thing in a different forum)
also please do not post blunt reply's to try to up your post count they are pointless i've said this once or twice but i'll say it again POST COUNT means NOTHING! it isnt going to get you recognized by a admin any sooner and the lil "newbie" "expert" samurai(Sp?) title means nothing that is just by post count its not gonna make people think that you are more knowledgeable in giving a correct answer...we have people that have been dealing with herps longer then most of us can remember giving answer's to questions that only have a few post's
so it isnt goin to make you look "all knowing" the only way to accomplish that is knowledge and hands on research with the specific animal's and we will not hold it against you if you dont know everything about everything ......(note:the main reason for me posting this was people pulling topic's back up from the previous year but i figure'd i'd point out the basic's while i was at it)
ALSO NO FLAMING!!! WE WILL NOT TOLERATE the downing of other people... we are here to enlighten not TRASH people because they dont know as much as "joe schmoe"

per xylum.........As many may be aware, there has been several repetive problems occurring as of late. These should be noticed and respected. Many new members have been digging up old posts that are several months and even a year old. These situations have probably already been fixed. If you still debate an subject, then feel free to post a new thread concerning the subject and link back to the orignal post. Old posts do not need to be brought up after such time. Another issue is those trying to raise their post count, blunt posting, and double posting. As stated before, post count does not mean anything. There is by far more knowlegable people already with only a hundred or so and even fewer posts. The titles that changes with your post count does not mean anything. It does not and will not make you special. Another issue that has been brought to hand is the flame posts and wars. This site is a community, not a place to degrade and put down on other members. If you find the need to do this, do it elsewhere. It will not be tolerated here at www.redtailboa.net . This does not give you the right to go about PMing others on the site or through their personalized www.redtailbao.net email. Take it to another forum or somewhere else.

if post count doesn't mean anything, maybe we should just remove it?
I know when I first came on here, not knowing anyone and not knowing the answer to my question, if someone with 1000 posts said one thing and someone with 32 said something else and those were ALL the answers I got, I'm going with the person with the 1000 posts answer. (assuming of course, both answers made sense). As I stayed here longer, I began to tell who knew what they were talking about and who didn't.
If you want to remove the posting for increasing post count, remove that silly little top 5 posters thing on the left hand side. It's human competative nature to want to be the best and get noticed for it.

I agree with J, the post counter is pointless. I have said this a couple of times, so I'll say it again: the only way to prevent people running up post counts with silly post is to kill the post counter.
If we are not willing to do that, then we need to quit whining about people doing what people will naturally do. It was put there (I'm sure) under the pretense of a great thought...but it creates a monster. The other arguement may be that it will knock down the total post count. I would say that is a by product of our fast food, quanity over quality mentality, but who am I?
Just my thoughts on this.

I use the post counter for a different reason than most people. People join the site for different reasons. I guess that is up to the individual...but I hate to see people just use it to sell and never get into discussions. So...I kinda monitor who actually participates and who just posts snakes or stuff for sale all for my own personal reasons that have no bearing on anything to do with this site or how it is run...just my own personal data.

You do have a point Jules...I do that myself. I never really thought of it b/c I think that I do it without really thinking about it. In all honesty it is not the post counter that is the issue here. We invite inane post by having a post counter, but most people are inane, so that is inevitable (I can't take credit for saying that, someone else here told me that yesterday, but I won't say who).
I guess that really we need to look at how we can prevent the things that come with the post counter if we want to keep it. I think that all topis should be locked after 30 days of inactivity. Post that have to do with "what do you keep", "who are you", can stay stuck up at the top and open where people can continue to answer them. Other than that most post die in less than 30 days, and we have a pretty smart bunch here, I am sure a little common sense lets you know that if the topic is still being talked on then let it go. If it gets locked and you want to continue the discussion then just list a link and a new post.
Any other ideas?
Ted

That makes good sense to me.
I'll go lock the ones in my forums if we can get everyone (mod wise) on board.

I will lock down all the ones in the forums I moderate too. I have no problem with that. Is it 60 days?
I think the e-mail would be a great idea. Are users required to provide a traceable e-mail address? If your on the web you have one. Should they be required, or would it be too much trouble?
