Allen Hunter is one of the most accomplished venomous breeders int he world. He also the author of VENOM 101. This is THE BIBLE for anyone interested in venomous species. He is an expert on virtually every species of venomous reptile and a real asset to the community. (even if he is Canadian )

Well, how'd did he get started?
Why?
In his opinion, what type of person is a suitable candidate for keeping hots?
What's the stupidest thing he's ever done?
How many times has he been envenomated? By what? Why?
I'll stop, I don't wanna hog all the questions
Oh, and Canadians RULE!!!!

Yes i have a question. What happened to his website? Is his wife still working w/ Aspidelaps sp. , and is she breeding (the snakes) ? Are they mainly still involved w/ elapids, or have they begun to work with a higher diversity of viperids? Is he involved w/ venom research? Has he gotten another chance at keeping Azemiops feae ? Dr. Brian G. Fry recently got a pair and is doing venom research on them as we speak, has he had any contact with him?

Good questions, rage. i know that I can go ahead and field one of them. His site is down because Venom 101 is going to be published. I am currently editing Allen's book and formatting for publication. There are going to be some more chapters added and the structure reformatted a little.

No they don't!

Did it hurt?
Actually, my questions are, how much experience did he have with other snakes (non-vens) before working with hots?
Does he work with anything other than hots, such as boas, pythons, crocodillian species etc?
Has he ever visited Redtail and if so, what did he think about the site?

I got one....probally the most common question everyone wants to know and will ask people that keep Ven snakes.
Has he ever been bitten. If so by what and what procedures did he take?

How does somebody go about getting into hots?
What are the dangers and complications involved?
What are your feelings towards venomoids?

What are your thoughts on de-fanging Ven's...sorry don't know the correct term used for removing the fangs of a Ven Snake
Do you have any interest in Venomous Lizards (not that there are many)?

Here are a few I am curious about :
What is a GOOD reason to keep a hot, is liking the way they look reason enough?
How much money and what steps should you follow to own your first hot, such as purchasing anti-venom, money to pay for a hospital visit, etc. That and other things I am not aware of.
What are good species to start with, are eyelash, indigo's, rattlesnakes, really the best?
I would think a rattlesnake would be the best for me to learn on, since the hospitals around me have to treat bites all the time and have the anti-venom there. Where do you purchase anti-venom and can you just call your local hospital and ask them if they happen to have any other species of anti-venom there?
If there is no one to study with, could you start to keep hots on your own with sufficient research, how do you go about finding someone to study with?
Are owning ATB's and other such species really a good way to train for a hot, are there any other non-ven snakes you would suggest keeping before entering the hot world?

I was under the impression that indigos, unlike some other non-constricting colubrids like hog's , are not equipped w/ a Durvenoy's gland? If there's been further research on this, i would certainly be interested in knowing.
