Rattlesnake Roundup Rescue
Well, it is getting close to that time of year again. Time for the most horrific display of cruelty toward herps, the Rattlesnake Roundups! While a couple here in GA have been stopped, a couple still remain. Work is in progress to stop these events, but as of now, they exist. So I have decided to do what i can. I contacted the buyer of the snakes and worked it out with him to buy the smaller rattlers off him. It turns my stomach to have to deal with people like that, but it is for the welfare of the snakes and i have to smile and do what I have to do in order to save as many as I can.
This will be my first Roundup and I am sure that we will have some horrifying pictures to share afterwards and hopefully some pictures of happy, ALIVE rattlers. A couple other members of RTB that deal in venomous are hopefully going with me so we will be able to save more.
Man, do i have mixed feeligns about this!

The current plan is to rehab them and get them eating, then take it from there. I know several nature centers and state parks that have requested them, so I will try to get them what they need for educational displays. A few will stay with me for use in educational programs. With an animal such as that, it is important to rotate which ones are on used to lessen stress.
Unfortunately, they cannot be released because of pathogens and unkown origins.
The first step is to save them and get them healthy. I will know closer to time about how many we can be expecting. It may be 5 or it may be 100. No way to tell right now.
This will play nicely into our Educational Display at Chattahoochee Nature Center 2 weeks after the Roundup.

I think these roundups are short lived with all the new "cruelty to animal" laws going into place. Those of us who are concerned and outraged need to voice or opinions loudly and make more of the general public understand that the definition of "animals" is not just dog, cats and horses. Meanwhile...what Brian is doing is a great cause. I don't know his exact financial situation but I'm certain that doing this will put a strain on his wallet. He may be too proud to ask for help but I'm not If anyone wants to help in any way with donations, even if you can't or won't take any of the rattlesnakes...please feel free to donate. His paypal account is info@reptileeducation.com Please leave a note as to what these funds are for. Cost of each snake will be a MINIMUM of 20 dollars each...probably more...and by the time they are wormed and medicated and otherwise fully rehabbed....MUCH more. Please Help! There will be a special place in herper heaven for those who help in this immediate crisis
