Bored Dugites And Tiger Snakes

Hi there!
I lived in western Australia until I was 17, and where I lived, we were always cautioned to watch out for Dugites and ESPECIALLY Tiger Snakes, known to live around water and be very aggressive (that was the folk lore lol). So I was browsing the wide variety of venomous snakes you all keep from various countries, and I was wondering if anyone had experience keeping either of these. They aren't gorgeous but boy are they venomous... I'm not going to keep HOTS I'm happy with my corns but I was reflecting on my experience in Australia and wondered if anyone here has had personal experience with these snakes, out of nostlagic curiosity. I did see Dugites in the wild a number of times, but never a tiger snake hehe. I was careful to make loud footsteps.

On a sad note when we were building our house my Dad had to shoot a 6 foot long Dugite because it was under the bricks and the workers refused to work until it was dead.

Anyhow that's my little story. lol.

Re: Dugites And Tiger Snakes

Thanks for sharing that Elizabethlea27! I think you'll be hard pressed to find anyone outside of Australia with experience on those snakes, as the export of Aussie snakes is so strict? Unless anyone did some reptile-zookeeping? But you never know...?
My hot experience was 99% with rattlesnakes, which I no longer keep.
Anyway, welcome...glad to have you with us!

Re: Dugites And Tiger Snakes

Thank you for the welcome!
I knew that importation of everything and anything was extremely strict over there, was not aware of export being so as well. I looked up what I could and it doesn't look like ANYONE keeps those snakes as 'pets' in Australia, except those who make anti-venom lol. I saw one guy who found a baby Dugite, and released it the next day, and another who filmed a tiger snake on the run, but that's about it.
Typical Australia would have the HOTS no one wants to handle hehehe. Even the people in Australia. (I mean they are 2 meters/ 6-7 ft long!!)

I do kind've miss seeing them every now and then though.

Oh and hey I'm in AR too! How was handling Rattlers?

Re: Dugites And Tiger Snakes

Do you know if it is the kind found in Australia? (Notechis scutatus)? When I was researching I found there are a number of species fro different countries referred to as Tiger Snakes >.< Also I did find that it's illegal to export native Australian snakes....
It would be awesome if it Venom had an Australian tiger snake though!!
