Copperhead in netting
Got a call this evening to go rescue a copperhead. Over an hour away, at night, in a storm, a Copperhead caught in bird netting. ........... yay. I managed to get her cut out but was not going to mess with her there, so I packed her up and headed home. Total of 3 hours travel time, most of which at 20mph.
Here she is in the travel box.
The netting was only over the top third but was digging in bad. The bad part of only being on the upper third was that there was enough body free to thrash wildly and make it pretty unpredictable. But I managed to get it restrained and the wife cut away the netting. It actually only took about 10 minutes and didn't get TOO squirrely. Amazingly, there are no lacerations which is unusual from this type of situation. This stuff is like Garrote Wire to snakes and is often lethal. Since there are no injuries, I will be releasing her along with another Copperhead rescue this weekend.

Re: Copperhead in netting
Poor snake. You are very brave to continue to rescue copperheads after your bite. So great that there are people like you.
