Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps
Does any one here have any info on these guys? They look astounding but I have not been able to find any info on them in captivity. I am just curious at this point...
thanks.

Re: Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps
What you don't have any...??
The only thing I know about them I learned on the web. I have seen several posts in the past on KS, one of the keepers is a European that has some very obscure Poisonous snakes. Thre are also some pretty cool photo's of Calliophis on FHF.
"Long glanded coral snake" crazy.

Re: Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps
It surprises me that such a colorful snake is not in captivity more widely. It must either be protected or very difficult to keep alive.

Not protected but very difficult to find in the wild and even harder to keep in captivity. Eric (ERK) imported some back in 2007 but sadly, they didn't make it long.

That's easy, if you eat it, it makes you sick...
FLVenom, what's the big problem with them in captivity? Snake eaters, high parasite loads and very specific requirements?

that, and being an Asian import, subject to the same treatment that everything else is from that region.

Re: Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps
Well, they do have venom glands extending over a quarter the length of their body...I AM a coral whore myself, but these would make me poop not only the proverbial brick...

Do you keep Coral snakes? Not that I'm planning on keeping them myself but I'm always interested in how people care for such difficult captives....any pics?

Re: Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps
I don't keep venomous now due to housing restraints, but I do handle them routinely in the wild; I also conduct invasive-species research with reptiles during the summer months when I'm not in my chemistry lab working on anti-cancer active molecules and chemical ecology

Re: Calliophis bivirgata flaviceps
I had one of these from a confiscated shipment in the 1990’s; it was in bad shape and died the same day. Such a shame as it was a stunning coloured snake.
