Re: baby dancing with a king cobra!
Actually, I heard they sew the snakes' mouths shut so they don't bite. They eventually die of starvation. It's pretty sick. We should just send some toys to India. (That video has been posted here several times).

I have some wooden cobras where I work that I wouldn't mind sending over. You can even paint them if you'd like..

Re: baby dancing with a king cobra!
the snakes mouth is sewn shut. it's a ritual in their culture to have the babies blessed by the cobra in that way. although I'm sure most if not all of us disagree with it

Our son bought a snake at a reptile show that had it's mouth GLUED shut to hide a RI. After we had it for 1 week it refused to eat, the second week it looked very interested but I noticed it was straining to open it's mouth!!! We got it open and it died a few days later. We later heard that vendor is known for selling wild caught stuff.

Re: baby dancing with a king cobra!
Dont think the mouth is stitched shut if you watch it the second strike you can see the mouth come open. Sure the fangs and venom glands are removed.

However, you're post is somewhat wrong. Saying "the animal will probably die because of it" isn't true. I do believe that for some Cytotoxic snakes, it may have an effect on the digestion rate, but that's about it.
If the surgery was carried out correctly and professionally, then it should do the animal no physical harm, except having no venom ducts and glands.
Although (Take notes for everybody who subscribes to Venomoiding) having a snake that is "safe" (venomoid) can be somewhat dangerous. As proved by Kristen, the curator of KY Reptile Zoo...Venomoid snakes can inject venom. This is due to the glands and ducts not being throughly removed, therefore re-generating in time. This happens mostly in Elapids, but it has also happened with Vipers. Quite a few people have died due to the envenomations of potentially "safe" venomous snakes, and is not something I'd recomend doing because 1) It's a cruel, inhumane, selfish and un-professional way of keeping venomous snakes. and 2) Venom glands can, and DO grow back!
|
Not to totally disagree, tho I'm always against Voids, but do you honestly think the snake in THAT situation was Voided properly? Anesthetic? Antibiotics? A vet? No, I think infection with likely get him in the end.
