So a snake goes into a bar . . . . .
So I get another rescue call this morning. Someone left a snake taped up in a box at the front door of a bar. Someone told them to call me blah blah blah. The bar is located next to a PET STORE that wouldn't take it. Fine. The bartender told me that she tore the corner of the box to look at it and it was "short, stocky, and brown with dark pattern". I am thinking Ball Python. Just what I need, another freaking Ball Python.
(Sorry for the poor quality, the photos are off of my phone.) So here is the box that was waiting for me on a table outside the bar. I walk in with a pillowcase (the universal sign of "snake man") and meet the bartender. She is confused about the snake, but not overly concerned and told me she thinks it is a python. Works for me, that is what I was expecting. You can see where she tore a hole in the top of the box. So she walks up and puts a finger in the hole pointing to the snake inside. Just then, a little head pokes up and licks her finger.
This little head
So I slap her hand away and explain that it is a Copperhead. She freaked ..... the other waitress freaked ........ the owner freaked ...... and went to the truck to get hooks. Well, I moved the box well into the open, put the bag over the hole, and told them to watch the box in case it crawled out ......... not an issue ........ they were not taking their eyes of that box.
So I carefully cut open the box at the seam. Very carefully for 3 reasons. First to avoid getting bitten, next to avoid hurting the snake, and third to NOT compromise the box in any way. I photographed everything to document it carefully and explained the situation. What they actually had happen was a felony. There is already precedence that such action with a venomous snake is considered Terroristic Threats and people have been convicted of such for sending a copperhead. I urged them to report the incident, placed the box back where it came from, and gave them my card in case they or the authorities needed to reach me.
Great ......... another copperhead.

Again, sorry for the photos. They came right off my MiniSD. Maybe I should have resized them.

Re: So a snake goes into a bar . . . . .
some people! man, you would think they would have just relocated it rather than dumping it at a bar. I mean really, they already had it in a box, oy.
