Re: Rattlesnake!!
Northern Pacific Rattlesnake (Crotalus oreganus). Be careful, pretty toxic venom, even among the rattlesnakes.

Thanks...I was really excited when we ran across this guy. I have never seen a Rattlesnake in the wild. It was a great and intense experience.

Re: Rattlesnake!!
Nice find and great pics. I spent a week in California over the summer hiking around Yosemite and Grand Sequoia hoping to find a rattler, but no luck. did see a San Fran garter snake though which was cool.

Re: Rattlesnake!!
I also live in the Bay Area and I caught 2 Rattle Snakes here. I caught a baby one with a little button on his tail that was probably 5-6" long and I caught another one around 3ft long. My friend used to have a lot in his backyard.

Re: Rattlesnake!!
Ok that is one very nice Rattler Personally I would rather just keep my distance than even try to even hook it.

Re: Rattlesnake!!
Personally, I try avoid pinning venomous. I can think of very few instances that would give me cause to head pin in the field. Spectacular specimen though.

Re: Rattlesnake!!
im agree with BWSmith 100% if your just in the field there is no reason to pin and risk a bite, you should not even pin the venomous ones you keep unless you have to.
