Venomous snakes found in Costa Rica
Don't know if I posted these here, but here are some of the hots I've found over the past four years herping Costa Rica. This is just a sample of them. Enjoy!
Terciopelo (Bothrops asper) Huge female! Solid six footer. Cabo Matapalo, Peninsula de Osa, Costa Rica.
Eyelash Viper (Bothriechis schlegelii) Los Patos Ranger Station, Peninsula de Osa, Costa Rica.
Eyelash Viper (Bothriechis schlegelii) 1k south of Dominical, along the Rio Baru.
Central American Coral Snake (Micrurus nigrocinctus) Cabo Matapalo, Peninsula de Osa, Costa Rica.
Central American Coral Snake (Micrurus nigrocinctus) Plantanillo, Costa Rica.
White tailed Hognose Viper (Porthidium porrasi) Juvenile, Rincon, Peninsula de Osa, Costa Rica.
and myself releasing a juvenile Bothrops that was found in the shower in June 2007.

Re: Venomous snakes found in Costa Rica
great pics. I have still yet to see a snake in the wild during my visits to Costa Rica the past two years. I'm sure I'll find one sooner or later.

Stu, I mean't to respond to your thread but I forgot. The area you were in isn't the best for herping, especially for snakes. It's dry forest, so you won't find B. asper up there. You could find Porthidium, Crotalus, and Agkistrodon up there though. You need to get to the rain forests which will increase your chances greatly.
