Cerastes cerastes mite problem
So my male Cerastes cerastes came in 3 weeks ago with only a few mites mainly behind his head (where the head and neck meet). After talking to the guy who shipped her (who had been reputable until this point ), he recommended I simply run her through baby oil. I am hesitant with this due to the absorbant nature of their skin. Does anyone have any experience in this area? Any advice besides soaking would be greatly appreciated.

Re: Cerastes cerastes mite problem
He's had 3 baths since arrival. Nothing is shaking these mites. They aren't multiplying as far as I can tell, as they have a hard time even getting thru their skin. Please help guys!

Re: Cerastes cerastes mite problem
I believe I used Reptile Relief that last time I encountered mites and it worked. You might try taking a quick review of some of the threads about mites in the health section in case no one else replies to you soon.

Re: Cerastes cerastes mite problem
.. what a great animal!
.
These cerastes can tolerate temperatures higher than mites will like as well as humidity levels lower than what mites require.. in a perfect set-up the mites should just go-away.
.
.. I hate snake-mites and won't deal with suppliers who include mites in shipments.
.
That's my opinon only..

Really?...that almost seems too easy but hey if it's worked for you then you would know best...putting reptile relief on them makes me nervous, as their skin is so absorbent. I know it's all natural and all but I don't wanna take any chances. So you've had good results just letting the environment work it out?

What makes you think their skin is absorbent?

Re: Cerastes cerastes mite problem
It is more absorbent than most other snakes due to their natural environment, in which they have almost no access to water, therefore, their skin will absorb as much as possible when exposed to any kind of moisture (including reptisafe)....as their only other method of water intake is through prey items...just makes me nervous to use a product on a snake it's never been tested on before
