Decided what to do to start hots
I have eight snakes. Each week I will elect one to be venemous snake of the week. I had ThomasH. over today and we practiced with some. This weeks snake is the northern water. I willl work around the cage with hooks and tongs an ast as if the snake is venemous.

Re: Decided what to do to start hots
I think it's a fantastic idea. It sounds like a great way to learn to get into the habits you'll need to develop far down the road when you do start working with hots.

Re: Decided what to do to start hots
I think that no matter how much anyone (self included) plays like something is hot, it is no substitute for getting proper training on the real thing.

Re: Decided what to do to start hots
True - but it's good practice for developing the habits he'll need when he does start supervised training/apprenticing under a professional.
It's a start, that's for sure.
I'm certainly not saying it's going to be all the training he needs, or even a big part of it, or that he should practice like that for a month and then go buy a cobra.
But it's a great foot to start on down the very long road towards successful, responsible hot-keeping.
Developing habits is the hardest thing to do, and by treating a non-venomous snake like a venomous snake in order to hone and ingrain those habits... It's definitely a responsible step. I think it's a good start.
