Whoever is training you to deal with hots (if someone is... I'm not sure about age requirements and whatnot) can probably answer that. After you get your venomous license, you'll be plenty experienced with lots of different venomous snakes, so a beginner snake wont be that big of a question. Some rattle snakes seem so be a little less wirey than others though. Western rattlesnakes seem to be pretty docile from my personal observations (though I'm not sure they all are). Captive bred babies also seem to be more willing to ride a hook better and not try to bite your face off so much when compared to wild caught babies too. This might not be true for all rattlers though...I've only seen the ones owned between my boss and my boyfriend. |

Probably a copperhead.
In recorded Virginia history, there has never been a death attributed to a copperhead envenomation. With that being said, many people have lost fingers, toes, feet and hands due to secondary infections caused by copperhead bites. The bite from a copperhead, may not end one's life but it sure can decrease its quality.
