Re: Best Begginer Hot
You're guard is easily let down with just an aggressive snake. You may not want to get bit, but you know it won't matter either way, so you're less likely to treat it as a hot. I've been bitten many a times by a non aggressive snake, but never by a hot. I would stay clear from getting an aggressive snake. Been keeping venomous for 13 years and non lethal snakes for longer than that, in terms, I assume know how one would treat one from the other.
You're best and should be only way to prepare yourself with hots is by handling hots. However, do so under supervision. Find someone in your area who owns venomous and follow their lead.
As for the best beginner hot, I agree with John. Copperheads are nice looking. Not as hot as most other venomous, and from the one's I've kept, are generally docile.

Re: Best Begginer Hot
Obviously, there's years and years of experience needed before owing hots. and I commend everyone on here giving good conservative advice with many warnings, but on the other hand, there's nothing wrong with discovering your passion in life. Most of us will never find our true calling and will settle for the most painless thing that pays the bills. Sounds like you're really passionate about herping snakemaster. Learn as much as you can so you can not only be a keeper of hots, but also a leader in the field and a mentor to others in the future. In other words, don't rush into it and get dead. Patience young grasshopper.

Re: Best Begginer Hot
Again, there are two words that just shouldn't be used together in the same sentence: "beginner" and "hot". Did I mention that I have really enjoyed knowing you, Snakemaster?

That's exactly what I've been thinking when people keep saying there is no "beginner hot."

Thanks for the first correct spelling of "beginner" on this thread. The bad spelling has been hurting my eyes!

P.S. BTW, "through" (not "threw") and "suit" (not suit)
Lesson over.
