I am trying to get a baby mangrove snake, and i cant figure out how to provide a sufficient hide spot for them. Ive heard that its pointless to provide a hidebox because they are arboreal. I know that they need to hide beause they are nocturnal. Whats the best way to provide a good hide spot?

I have used hide boxes that mount the the cage wall near the top, they seem to enjoy those.
And as BW said. DONT GET BIT.

I really don't think anybody ever died from a Mangrove Snake bite (although herpetologists are classifying Boiga as being more dangerous seemingly all the time), but I'd venture a guess that it is quite painful. Of course, it doesn't take a Nostrabeandip to figure that out, but I'm sure someone else will come along with a more accurate and better refined answer. In the meantime -BUMP!

I have a friend that took a hit off a Mangrove recently on the knuckle. He had some intense pain and swelling and still does not have full use of the finger. Connective tissue damage maybe?

Hey dragonfly...did it look anything like this?

These are more common in petstores than Mangroves. But Spilotes (common names include tiger ratsnake and tropical chickensnake) are non venomous....usually a bit testy though. We have had a few people confuse the two before. Just wondering.

No it was most deffinetly a Mangrove snake. Was a pure very glossy black, with very distinct yellow banding..
