Re: just a question for all venomous snake owners

Interesting thread by some good folks over there. It is, however, an extremely small sampling. I think a better sampling would be a hot herp show. This is a topic that comes up quite a bit on shhs.

It is interesting how the statistics vary through the last 8 years on SHHS depending on who is online that week and the current demographics of the site. You alot of good people and good debates for both sides. It is mainly just different philosophies based on personal experience.

I do like to think that I contribute to less bites

that's really all i was saying. john white seemed to believe it was up to chance and fate or whatever. there is way more to it than that or everyone would be tagged. i know that thread was nothing of real substance, but interesting if nothing else.

Re: just a question for all venomous snake owners

I supposed it's like getting banned from reptile sites. Some do it every few years, some not at all. I know at least one person on this thread was banned from RTB at one point...

i left voluntarily last time, to lay low and not attract attention from the wrong people. you banned me before that (temp ban) because i pointed out that you and others had made posts about drinking beer and stuff like that, and that it wasn't fair for you to warn another member against doing the same exact thing. we argued via PM (you said it was different, i said it was exactly the same) and the next thing i know, i'm banned

Re: just a question for all venomous snake owners

I banned you? You're mistaken. I've never had that authority. I was a mod for a while, but other than edit or close threads, didn't have much power.

I've seen enough people get banned, and participated in the behind the scenes discussion of it to know better than to believe that you got banned simply for disagreeing with me. I'm not that important, and plenty of others have disagreed with me, and are still around, despite conspiracies to bait them into saying something ban-worthy (right, Raze?).

Ironically, I was referring to someone else who I am certain was banned. Make it at least two on this thread then...

Re: just a question for all venomous snake owners

This obviously has nothing to do with keeping venomous snakes, so lets go right ahead and drop it. K?

Re: just a question for all venomous snake owners

I think say not if when you get bitten is to the extreme, yes some people will get bitten others wont, I know of alot of hot keepers in the UK, with many years experience who have never been bitten, if you read about people who have been bitten 8/10 times they will admit they had got complacent and made a human error, now if you stick to your own set of strict rules then envenomation risks are minimised.

If you are the one unlucky person, no matter how small the chance, better prepared than dead.

no one is arguing against preparation though, i was just trying to prove that what john white said (everyone is bitten if they keep long enough) as an untruth. i've had snakes that simply would not bite you, as easy going as any other species on earth. sure, it was a timber rattler and i treated as a deadly animal, but in the 7 years i had it, it never once even had a bad day. he died last year

but anyone who isn't at least prepared JUST IN CASE is asking for trouble. most folks understand that though.
