beautiful, I love the copperhead's look, the
way they can blend into the leaf litter.. it's
amazing. Very pretty one there! Thanks for
sharing all the pics, Lori. [addsig]

Yep, nice snake Lori. Copperheads are definitely on the top of my hot/wanted list. IF, I didn't have kids and a wife, I would eventually get one. I do though, so no copperhead for Pat![addsig]

FAZE..
This is one of those new fangled adoptions . I don't actually take possession of him in my home..I just get visitations where he resides...I can visit anytime I want , I don't have to feed him, clean his cage, or even touch him I don't even have to provide for his support
I wonder why he doesn't come out of hide to see me when i first get to where he is???
Beauty..Isn't he?? This pic actually doesn't do him any justice even [addsig]

Really? People buy'em? I could make a mint here in NC, they're all over the place, Northern and Southern ssp anyway. Guess I better get to practicing with the snake stick. Really, every week from April to August, I always hear someone saying how they had to kill a copperhead this weekend...[addsig]

I would love to own a HOT someday, but I don't have a clue where to go to get the proper permits. Also, I anyof you want to catch me one I'll pay shipping. I can't find anything here is Missouri. Maybe I'm not looking in the right places.

I don't know all the laws for Missouri, but if I recall correctly they don't allow keeping of anything native to the state unless you have a state permit... which I believe is a real pain to get. You have to be part of a conservation or education program.
Anything not native to the state is fine though. There are copperheads native to Missouri, but any sub-species that isn't native should be fine. If you really are interested in finding out the Missouri laws, I have a friend in the state who deals in hots who I could contact and ask.

In order to keep native venomous species in Missouri you need a class 2 license, which is 150 dollars a year - this allows breeding, sale, and transport as well. The licenses can be bought at state Parks & Wildlife offices. I don't think there is any special requirements, just a form to fill out, but don't quote me on that - they may require photos of your enclosures and snake room. Local law enforcement should be notified that you keep venomous species, but I don't think it is a requirement. Non-native species are not regulated at the state level (though some localities may have laws). Of course, native being - native to Missouri. So, technically, you need a permit to keep an osage copperhead, but not a broadbanded copperhead, because one is native the other isn't.
Of course... state laws are a constantly changing entity, so you definitely want to speak with someone from Parks & Wildlife and someone with your local city/town government to verify before aquiring any species that may be considered dangerous. The last thing you want to do is end up in a legal rambling because of some obscure law.

Hello,
I have a book that explains all the states regs. Missouri states that you must acquire a venomous permit (CLASS II) Wildlife breeders permit. The annual cost is $150.00 (that sucks).
Here is who you have to contact:
Department of Conservation
2901 W. Truman Blvd.
Jefferson city, MO. 65102-0180
Phone: 314-751-4115
The book I have is from 1994. Things should have not changed, but you never know. I would call and get an application and go for it.
Plus you can keep up to 5 individuals of the same species.
Later
Will W.
