a girl in my class brought in a snake that she didnt know what is was to class the other day and it turned out to be a pigmy rattlesnake. they kept it in class and its still there now but its in a jar, no heat, no water, nothing. some guys that just wanted to see it eat gave it a small green tree frog and it gobbled that up. my om wont let me have it at home andi dont want the thing to die. what should i do? i odnt know if the teacher just wants to put it outside where it will most probly die in the coldness. i dont know. i really want to take it home but the mom says no venomous.

I don't know much about hots, but I am guessing that the girl found the snake outside. If that is the case than it is a native snake and will survive out where it cane from. Where are you from? Do u know where the girl got the snake?

Definately try to find someone to take it. It is getting too cold for it to find a place to brumate for the winter. I cannot believe the risk that your teacher is taking. Keeping a dangerous animal in a classroom with nothing to protect the kids but a screw lid! Try to find a local herp society or venomous keeper to take the little guy. Your teacher is putting the entire local school system at risk of a multi-million dollar lawsuit! As much as it pains me to say it, if you can not find anyone to take it, I would say release it in the woods and let it take its chances. I LOVE snakes, but human life always comes first. And it is either going to die int hat jar or bite some kid (probably a boy ) when they get ballsy and decide to pull it out of the jar whent he teacher is not looking. There is also the chance of escape. Then She runs the risk of sending a kid to the hospital with a $60,000 bill and probably less fingers and the kid did not even do anything stupid like in the first scenerio.
Bottom line: One way or another, GET IT OUT OF THE SCHOOL!!
Best of luck and let us know what happens.

This is nuts, a 6 o'clock news story on how evil snakes are just waiting to happen. Assuming it really is a pyg. Even baby rattlers are born with a button of a rattle, and they start adding segments onto it in the first week of their lives. Unless it was broken completely off, which certainly is possible in the hands of a complete moron - but seems odd to me.
Anyway... I'm with everyone else. There are many herp keepers in the area, and several large herp societies in the state that can help. Get the animal out of the school, even if it means telling someone in the school board or something - that aniaml -must- be moved away from the school, the teacher is being completely reckless with the lives of his students and the life of the animal.
