My new Favorite snake!

I watched a discovery channel show last week, and although I don't know what it was called, they had this GORGEOUS snake on. It was a Banded Sea Krait, Laticauda colubrina. They are amazingly blue and just sooooo pretty. From what I understand from the show, (The guy was handling them like they were corn snakes, letting them crawl all over his face,) they are HIGHLY venomous but very nonaggressive and rarely bite. And they apparently spend some time on land as well.

I don't think I would EVER keep one, but do people actually keep these?
From what I was understanding on the web, they are related to cobras and are elapids, but alot of the sites show people handling them, and they almost make it seem as if they are venomous but they aren't (because of the temperment).

So all you experts, could you help me out with this one. WHAT'S THE DEAL!!! If they are so venomous, (several places said they were one of the most venomous in the world) Why are so many people handling them?

they are venomous

they SHOULD NOT be handled as carelessly as people do on TV

they may not be as outwardly aggressive as some of the others.

the Dallas zoo has some, and I think a few other zoos/aquariums have them, but thats about it.

Sea Kraits are funny. People tend to get away with handling them like a cornsnake in the DAY TIME...but notice none of these shots were taken at night. If handled that way at night the chance of a bite goes from almost nill to pretty likely. I think it's wrong to free handle vens at all...especially on television. There is nothing gained from the risk and everything to lose.
