Various pictures..
Papua New Guinea Taipan (Oxyuranus s. canni) CBB 7/2006. Finally got a male, but he has a few years to play catch up with the female. Excuse the shot inside the feeding bin.
Bush Viper (Atheris squamiger) WC 2006. Wormed and feeding like a champ.
Puff Adder (Bitis arietans) CB 2004, South Africa.
Chinese Sharpnose Viper (Deinagkistrodon acutus) CBB 2004. This is the female that I have on a breeding loan. They should be ready to go by next fall.
Black Mamba (Dendroaspis polylepis) WC 10/2006, Tanzania.

it's not a talent. it's more like the ability to ADHERE to a strict set of guidelines to keep yourself, the snake and others safe. the people who make venomous keepers look bad COULD have done it as good as anyone, but chose to be lazy or careless and it caught up with them. they didn't care that every single interaction is a risk you must manage.
a stupid mistake with a garter snake is nothing worth mentioning. a stupid mistake with an egyptian cobra could mean death or at least a life altering experience.

Thanks for the comments, you like the Puff Adders huh? They are one of my favorite species to work with. I wouldn't necessarily say its all talent and money, it is just the level of dedication. Like Atricaudatus said, if someone gets bit by their Garter snake, no problem, no major news headlines at all. But now if someone gets bit by their cobra, chances are it will be splashed all over the local headlines. Case in point being the person in Indiana who recently got envenomated by his East African Green Mamba. First off, he was keeping the snakes illegally without a permit. He also had other species like the Forest Cobra (Naja melanoleuca) where he stated on another popular website that he just bought the snake and was scared to death of it. It is pretty disturbing to hear news like that. Basically, this guy should not have even been keeping Blind snakes, let alone cobras and mambas.

Very nice tai. Very different colouration to the ones we get down here. Feed it up and it will get to breeding size in no time.
