Everyone I know who keeps Mambas just adore them.
They say they are great snakes (hot wise) and that they are super intelligent.
Every time I see them they are sitting back chillin'.
Do they usually acclimate well?
Im glad your girl is feeling better, she is very pretty She looks pretty satisfied with herself in the last pic
What vet do you use? I can't imagine calling my local vet and telling him I need to bring in my Mamba, or Gaboon, for that matter. They freak out when I bring in a 7ft RTB!! LOL
I'll have to take my hots to Springfield or Joplin.

They are great snakes, by far my favorite elapid. Most specimens become use to being in captivity and will become laid back to a certain degree, others will just be nervous, skittish nightmares while they are being kept. Generally, young mambas come in to the country in fairly decent shape. With the exception of noose marks and and small scars, they are usually in good shape. Adults come in alot of the time with broken jaws and other problems that are usually fatal later down the road. My vet is a local guy here in Ft. Lauderdale who has an excellent reputation with Reptile and Amphibian medicine. They day of the appointment, I walked in to the office and told the front desk I was here with my Black Mamba to see Dr. John. She thought I was kidding, but the locked venomous box I was carrying her in proved otherwise to the lady.

Yes, to people who are not familiar with Mambas, that would be a scary proposition to even think about keeping a mamba. But, since I am very familiar with them, and have worked with them for quite some time, I do not mind them at all. I have 1.2 adult D. polylepis on breeding loan from a friend of mine, and these beasts are all over 8 foot in lenght, with the largest female being a solid 10 foot. The adults are fairly easy going, with the exception of the one female who gets a little bit excited on some days. I believe they are very misunderstood snakes and they have interesting behaviour in captivity. Pictured below is the LTC adult female D. polylepis from Tanzania with the classic light brownish color, and the CBB South African D. polylepis male who was in shed in this picture.
