I am surprised nobody has commented on Venom ER show last night (Animal Planet) and the show that followed it, another "snake hunter" catching the 7 most dangerous snakes in Africa.
He got tagged twice!! Second time quite bad, from a Snouted Cobra!
My favorite was the Gabon Viper. My god, what a snake!! Most beautifyul colors I have ever seen. And I not very crazy about hots, but that is one COOOOLLL snake. It is so sad is loosing the habitat battle.
The venom Er was good, but quite repetitive (the announcer kept using the same phrases over and over). "With venom, time is tissue!"... interesting. The doctor attending is a herp enthusiast and keeps hots at home.

I watched it too... it was actually a good end to a bad day. Also on the National Geographic channel they were doing a special on Diamondbacks the same time as the Venom ER... so I had to constantly switch between the two!
I thought it was rather interesting... I did like the show afterwards though (7 Deadly Strikes) because the hunter-guy made it more clear that the snake bites only when agitated. I just got the impression that in Venom ER, snakes were the enemy and!!! they can KILL people!
Like, duh! But it was still nice to see the sweeties on camera, no? On the last special I took a liking to the snouted cobra because I think they're really cute! The Gaboon Viper had pretty colours, I agree, but the face was a little too hoglike for me! he got way to close for comfort.

Austin Stevens was the guy on 7 Deadly Strikes. He was being stupid. But he got some great shots.
As for Venom ER. I thought it was great. Dr. Sean Bush is a great asset to both the medical community and the herp community. I hope to meet him someday. I did find it unusual that SO many bite victims knew exactly what a Southern pacific Rattler and Mojave Green Rattler looked like and could ID them accurately. hmmmm. Personal Collections, maybe? I also don't buy the crap that the woman was "Trying to save" her daughter form a juvinale Sidewinder. At least they hilighted the guy who got bit while mucking with one. Shows how most bites happen.

Interesting the bit about sucking the venom out, since later the other guy (Austin) did just that with the Cobra bite. Of course, if you are out there in the middle of nowhere you don't have much choice.
I liked the bit with the Boom Slang. Dangerous snake, but quite pleasent, no?
I was impressed by the rattler ID also. UI could not tell one from another, specialy if I just got bit! Sean seems very cool. I also liked the bit ont he research. He did comment most people get bit because they are doing something they shouldn't be doing in the first place, like that young guy who tried to pickup the rattler.
The operation on that last guy that waited 12 hours was very ugly!
Note also : there were some conversations here about Steve using a hook. Austin (the guy last night) did use a grabber several times, specially with the Black Mamba. That thing is scary!

There is no reason to agitate the snakes as much as he did in order to get a good shot.
This guys behavior with the snakes on "7 Deadly Strikes" made Irwin look "careful" when he handles snakes.

the 7 deaadliest snakes show was cool i really liked the gaboon catch. The perfectly placed vine he used to swing and almost land on the snake, very funny.

I thought the Venomous ER was great. Man, I don't know how Dr. Bush does it. He has to deal with some of the most extremely ignorant/stupid people on the face of the planet on a daily basis, and it seemed like he was just fine with it. I know I couldn't do it. PROPS!!
As for the 7 deadly snakes..... what an idiot. Not cool. -Juggalo

I have to agree with the moral cancensus on the austin stevens show. What an embolsol. I think he is the worst one of the herpers on tv I have seen. I would of like to see him take a hit from the mamba, and see if he still wants to treats snakes in that manner again. I also was surprised by all the wrong information. Like the boomslang being on of the dealiest snakes int the world. It was funny he said the same thing on the momba and the gabboon viper. oh well he did get some nice pics but I do not agree with how he got them.

The seven deadliest snakes was the stupidest snakeshow i have seen in a long time (since deadly constrictors or something like that).
I kept thinking to myself, that guy can't be for real.
Good shots or not, hes absolutely an idiot. The shot with the gabby, where he swings on that perfectly placed vine into the water....how dramatic....NOT. He could have just jumped into the water.... But i guess this "tarzan-imitation" was more entertaining.
Also.....right at the beginning, after that sidewinder tagged him....he picked it up on a stick afterwards...and it seemed lifeless...?? It was full of spunk before..then it just hung there on that stick..not a single twitch...also for that second when he put it down ( off the stick )...it just landed in a heap, completely unmoving....you could only see that for a second or two, but struck me as strange right away. Looked like a dead or fake snake in those few seconds.
I just really didn't dig that show, something about that guy....i just don't like...
But at least there were snakes to look at in the show...only reason i kept watching it.
The ER show on the other hand, was excellent IMHO. It showed the danger of snake bites, but clearly stated how they usually happen (people mucking with snakes) and what fascinating animals they really are, and that they are only defending themselfes...very informative, too...I give it 4 stars.....LOL

Yes since the baby he did get rid of them. Wish i saw both of those shows. I also wish animal planet would keep a normal schedule and not change it every other day. I'm always finding shows listed not on and most shows to be played randomly and of course my favourites when i'm at work

Think TIVO!! A new way to watch TV. With a TIVO, you never watch TV realtime anymore, you will always have a collection of stuff waiting for you...
I haven't bought one yet, but everybody I know that has one is like in a cult over the darn thing.

It's true that a Boomslang doesn't kill you very fast, but in about 24 hours tou have some serious problems. If he wanted to do a cytotoxic snake he should have shown a Thelatornsis or an Echis. I would rank saw-scaled vipers as the most deadly snakes in the world. Period. Twigsnakes second for lack of antivenom.
