He was an Anytheristic (sp) Dusky Pygmy Rattlesnake (Sistrurus miliarius barouri). I found the camera packe up in a box in the basement and the film was still good The strange thing is that I took that same camera and same film on Rev and I's herping trip adn we found the same type snake DOR What a coinkidink.

He is the reason that I don't feed live unless there is o choice. And even then I keep a close on it. He struck a live mouse, it dropped and didn't move, I went upstairs to let him eat. I came back down to check on him and the mouse was running around and had already eaten his HEAD!!!! That would suck to sit down to the dinner table to enjoy a nice meal and have your steak jump up and bite off your head. I'm glad I'm in what part of the food chain I am. Food from Kroger seldom attacks....other than the occasional food poisoned canned goods or raw chicken...we kinda have it made....thanks for the story Brian....we need all the feeding live mishap stories we can get to further expose the problem.

That's sad, pygs are lovely. I know one RTB that had two inches of her tail chewed of by a rat, but fortunately, vets managed to reattach it. And my friend told me of a case where some guy left a shore pit viper with 3 mice overnight. Of course the poor guy was half eaten by morning. Mice are very, very um .. chewy. You know what I mean. I saw one guy trying to chew his way out of a snake box through an air hole once, and it was actually making progress in the fibreglass! Then I realised that it was a live mouse in a snake tank and told the guy keeping the amethystine at once.
