I was sent this pic by someone that works in the utility industry. They stated that this culvert was found with 87 rattlesnakes inside. Is that really likely? My immediate reaction was that this was a complete load. Check it out and let me know your thoughts.

That is definately a whole lot of rattlers in a pipe. If it was staged, someone has too much time on their hands.

That photo is BS! It has been circulating for about 3 months and is a hoax.

I would be thouroghly #$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^& if I happened up on a scene like that for real...cause I only keep about 20 snake bags in the truck at any given time.

Seal up the vents and throw them all in the cab, then have it towed back to your house

glad to know that my instincts arn't completly off. I could not imagine 87 or any other large number of rattlers gathering like that. It's not like they are garter snakes.
Thanks for they enlightenment guys!

Oh but they do Ted. That number wouldn't be at all far fetched in a nice unmolested atrox den in BigSpring Texas in the winter time.

There are certain species that do den. Mainly desert species and Timbers. But that is not underground enough for a den and that many snakes would be amazing in one den. Not to mention the ones suffocating on the bottom. I would venture to say "possible" but definately not "probable" After all, animals will always suprise you.
