Al has only feed live in ONE video and that was a 3-5 second clip. All the other +70 videos are F/T chicks, rats, or pinkies. Let us remember that he fed live only because the snake was new and not taking f/t or dead. He converted the snake to F/T.
With hots, live isn't as much of an issue as it is with constrictors. Either they strike and withdraw so fast the prey has no time to react, or the bite and hold on, not allowing the prey to move. Rhino's and Gabby's do this wonderfully.
When we are looking at a gentlemen that owns more hots than most of us own non-venomous animals, I think we can say he knows what he is doing.
This hubub over live was blown out of wack by someone who either didn't see all Al's videos and made an assumption, or mistakenly watch some other hot vids and thought they were Al's.
Let's settle down folk's.
BTW: did anyone catch the video on the baby gila monsters he was babysitting? That was VERY educational.

Just to point out I know Al very well He is a good friend of mine. He posts these videos on my site every time he makkes one. So yes I know Al very well.
And to say I was getting all upset you are wrong. Louise will even tell you this. I also own a ton of snalkes hots included. I was not attacking Al. Not even close. I was not attacking louise. She even pmed me on my site. She and I are cool in every way. And yes I seen the gila video. I am also hoping to be getting some stuff from my buddy Al, eric and Joe Real soon. next will be my Boomer.

i am sorry i took a nap.lol. me and gary are cool and his site is where i find Als videos.
this was all a misunderstanding. every person i know thinks Al is great. the live feeding debate had nothing to do with Al. everyone knows if Al fed live it is because he had to to save a snake. that man loves his critters and it shows on every video he makes

Hi Everyone:
I am really busy, 14 genera, 37 species all HOT will keep you flat out nuts!! I skimmed some of the many replies to this thread and want to thanks everyone for making me a bit more popular than I thought I'd become. Thanks for all who had something positive to say and thanks for your opinnion for those who didn't. I want to add some comments to some of the items I came across in this thread.
1) I really detest having to live feed some species/specimens. I usually will capture the prey after it's been struck and quickly do a cervical dislocation to end it's suffering. For specimens that will take pre-killed I will do that before I introduce it to the snake. Everybody else gets F/t and a variety too, rats, mice, chicks, quail. This allows them all sorts of protein and nutrients, rather the same old "TV Dinner" I work hard at getting everybody onto f/t but some just make my hair fall out by refusing. I live on a farm with plenty of wild critters about, so anything not eaten is left out for them, not throw in the garbage or flushed down the drain. If an animal gives it's life to be food for somebody, I make sure they get back into the food chain.
2) It Psedocerastes that is very close to a carrion feeder in the wild.
3) My mission in all this is to share my animals with as many as possible. The videos I make are to both educate & entertain. If you want thrills, I can do that with a little help from my friends. I will not do anything that might risk me or my animals to get somebody to tune into my videos. I can't make videos if I'm dead.
4) I will answer anybodies questions that I know the answers to, if I don't I bet I know where I can find the answer or the person who does. I don't BS around, I don't have the time. Expect the facts and NO candy coating. This is America, I have my opinnion, you have yours, we can agree to disagree. Mine is not the only way of doing something, I'm eager to learn about you're experiences too. Most of this Art/Science is not written down and is passed from person to person in this way. I have to go and check out who's flaming me over on KS about my stand regarding dealers who don't worry about who buys their Cobras as long as their of legal age.
Cheers!
Al

Good Sorry if I jumped on you then.
Louise is a bit protective of F/t and rightfully so.
Usually a seemingly harmless comment from someone about F/T vs Live turns into a HUGE debate and the thread gets closed..I didnt want to see that happen, or Louise flip her lid..LOL
