Stupid keeper errors?

Gregg, you took the words right out of my mouth. But welcome to the herp world, if you see something that you believe is wrong, you quickly jump to conclusions without taking in the facts. That seems to be quite common now a days. Tom, have you ever handled Ophiohagus hannah before? What do you believe Larry is doing wrong in his video? Is it because the snake doesn't just go right into the enclosure and it took him some extra time to put her away? I think we all need to be a little more cautious before jumping on others.

Not having the 25+years experience that Al has, when I first saw one of his videos, I freaked..But after I spoke with Scott, and other experienced keepers who personally know Al, and were nice enough to reassure me he knows what he is doing, I realized Al was in no danger from this snake BECAUSE he not only knows the general behaviors of the species, but the individual snakes. I love seeing his videos, and I feel like prodding him to make another to satisfy my Gabby addiction

I think my initial reaction came from my own newbie limitations, and knowing I would not handle the situation as well. Much learning to do..

these all apply to the "hot world"

1) there is always someone who will tell you that you're doing it wrong and that it's unsafe

2) there are plenty of guys who know what they're doing......not as many who ACTUALLY KNOW what they're doing though....gotta learn it by doing it and there is no substitute

3) what works for one guy may not work for every other guy.......as long as it works, who really cares?

4) to some, this is a HOBBY and to others, it's a bigger part of life......i have to pay my bills by doing construction 60 hours a week so i don't have as much time to devote to saving the hobby and a lot look down on that......of course, on their best day, they won't keep up with me doing what i do and i'd happily back that up.......everyone can't be the person who stops the laws or informs everyone about what goes on.......if my reptiles get more attention than my kids, then i'm a sorry father......my reptiles are secondary and right now, my only real hobby....they get plenty of care and attention and are all healthy and as happy as a snake can be

5) some are simply better at it than others.....just like everything else....some guys have better eyes and ears, react to the animals quicker and read them better, and have more luck on their side........

while hot guys bicker about the right way to do it all, large boids are killing people left and right though.........EVERYONE needs to get together and weed out the idiots and people doing it for an ego boost and then work together as cohesively as possible to straighten out these hack laws.......i'll do my part, but everyone's part isn't gonna be equal......you still need all the pieces though

you basically called out a guy that is fairly well respected and does a lot of good for the "hot world".............you simply can't do that "tongue in cheek" much in the same way you can't kill a baby "tongue in cheek".......it's an attack on his credibility and that's exactly what you wanted it to be......

i can see what you're saying, but again, what works for him may not work for you.......i could easily work in his snake room but maybe everyone can't.......just like with everything else, you find what works and you make it your's.......we can't help but add our flair to everything we do.......he knows exactly what he can get away with and what he can't.........that's why it may not work for YOU, but works fine for him.......it's his little world and i don't feel that anyone else has a right to criticize that until his world is proven dangerous or careless to others

So what was your point??? How can you judge what is safe... How can you point out "issues" in a situation when you have never been in that situation... My point is, how can you exagerate a point when you have no point???

First of all, you make it sound like he was handling a 16 foot king cobra in a jungle gym... Until you have been in his shoes, you can not say what is safe or not...

Why is that Tom??? What did you see wrong in those vids??? Have you ever tried to hook a peed off puff adder over 3 feet long??? Are the snakes supposed to fully comply and slide into holding containers without a problem??? Not all snakes act like boas and cornsnakes... LOL.... Again, another example of a person who should think before they write a post... These are things hot keepers go through every day... I am sure BW has had to deal with a few unruley snakes every once in a while... Who the heck is BW anyway??? LOL...
