Reality Check
Just wanted to throw out a quick reality check for venomous keepers. Never get complacent with your animals. A good friend recently took a hit from his 2' Timber Rattlesnake. This is the sibling to one of mine, a long bloodline of White Hall, NY stock kept pure since before protection. Northern range Timbers are not knows for historically being very neurotoxic. Well, he got a load of almost pure neurotoxins (no necrosis, only edema) that landed him in the hospital. Now it is not just the bite, it is also the bill. Over 30 vials of CroFab and a total bill of $93,000. Imagine not having insurance. Be safe and aware.

Wouldnt the Timber had to have envenomated him with a considerable amount of venom to be that life threatening? Or was it more of a precautionary measure to give him that much antivenom? Or was it because he had a severe reaction (anaphylaxis)?
A bit off topic: I had read that generally EDB rattlers had a more tissue destroying property than Timbers who had a tendency to have more of a neurotoxic effect (compared between the two)?
I realize crotalus venom can differ greatly species to species, and also even in separate populations..But do you believe this to be overall accurate?

I'm with you Louise.
Besides, I am alergic to both puncture wounds and venom, so unless I want to have a rection I shouldn't be envenomated.
