I went herping in my front yard earlier all along Beargrass Creek and came across several species of very attractive snakes... I saw a beautiful ribbon snake, several species of water snake and then the dream catch for Julius... About 3.5 ft of Gravid Copperhead!
She was exceptionally dark (possibly because she looked like she was ready to drop her clutch at any moment). I got up on her and got a snake hook under her, but she took off too fast and was in the creek. I followed her upstream a ways and just sat there as she came out to bask on a branch again. On the second try with the hook, I got her about a foot away from the bag. This kid showed NO agression! She just wanted to get away so I tried one more time. The last time I didn't even get close and she went down a hole. That's when the thunderstorm started so I had to go in. I know... Playing with a hot snake and scared of lightning.
Oh well, I'll try again tomorrow...
Wish me luck!
-Morti.

Hots and Lightning? Like poking the Bear of Fate with a pointy stick....
Good luck with catching it, just be careful (not that you need telling)

Dang Morti!
From the title of this thread, I thought you might have sent him a
card board cut out of AliceWave!
Too bad ya didn't get the girl! But I bet if you go out there again, then you may just cross her path again!
In other words, make lightning hit twice!

Hey Morti...catch one of those ribbon snakes and practice hooking it. It takes some time to get the feel of certain snakes on a hook. Copperheads can zip right off of it before you can blink....Be careful bagging them too. Holding the bag open often puts an aggitated pitviper inches from you fingers for a few seconds. I use a 5 gallon bucket to hook em into. Don't get bit trying to collect something for me....I'd lose a night or two's sleep over that LOL.
