Trans Pecos Copperhead
Captive bred female, Agkistrodon contortrix pictigaster, part of a trio I got last summer. She is entering opaque cycle, so her colors are not as bright as usual.

Very nice but, I prefer the shoutherns. Not that I am thining about getting one, just wondering, in captivity do they tend to act mean or do they seem to mellow out? Not in a handling sense but just in their overall actions when say walking by their tanks and during cleaning.......

Copperheads are anything but mean. Will they bite if you get too close? Maybe but it's not because they are mean. They are skittish and a bit goofy. Scared of everything and always alert. I love the transpecos coppers. John White gave me a really interesting transpecos x southern cross. He's my favorite by far. I love that little guy.

Best to me would be about looks and personality.
Worst...If you live in a place where you get copperhead calls, they breed like freaking rats, cryptic colors make looking for them when you know they are there kinda fun..like an easteregg hunt with consequences. There are just too many of them. No one wants them around their place obviously. Anyone that keeps them has too many or soon will. You can't give them away...so you end up having to relocate them and I hate doing that because relocated snakes don't normally fare well...nor does the balance of the new ecosystem you upset by doing that.

Very nice copperhead. Of the North American vens, they may be my favorite. That's a tough call though...I really like the rattlesnakes as well and pygs just do something for me.
