steve irwin venomoid
i was watching the crocodile hunter and they had a tiger snake ( i think thats wat it was) that had badly infected venom glands. I know the whole venomoid thing is a touchy subject so i was wondering if people think it was wrong for removing the glands and ducts because of the bad infection. The vet said it would be extremely hard to get rid of the infection and removal of the glands and ducts would be the best way to go. Any one have an opinion on this?

my opinion, im totally against venomoids, but if it was the only way that the snake could survive and live a semi normal life, then its a good thing. that is of course, if its not causing the snake any pain

There are a lot of things that are on that show which are questionable, yet most people find it entertaining. Otherwise it wouldn't still be on the air. He did a show from here in AZ and caused quite a stir with many locals. Nothing ever came of it, but he hasn't been back. IMO, he shows very questionable taste in how he handles the different critters that he is in contact with. He was even questioned with child endangerment with an incident with his daughter. Another Michael Jackson in the makings? I better stop here and shut up before I get going too much. Listen to half of what he says, and believe a fourth of what you have heard.

The glands probably got infected from a botched void surgery to start with. I'm fairly well convinced that that goob does nothing with vens on his show BUT showboat around with voids.

no doubt about that bro, I mean come on if your to handle a hot, you deffinitly don't want to do it the way this guy does, not only is he a fake, but also IMO a shame to all in the reptile hobby.

I've often thought when watching him, why run around like a lunatic with these snakes trying to catch em? I'm sure a snake hook would make things much easier! (Brett ) I think as you say its just showboating!
I do think that Austin stevens is for real. I saw him with a spitting cobra that got plenty of venom all over his sunglasses! Though why on earth youd wanna put your face so close is beyond me?

I have never seen a case where the actual venom glands were infected. Even if that is the case, antibiotics would always be a first treatment before even thinking about amputation. That being said, having to amputate a venom gland for the well being of the animal is different than creating a venomoid.

Honestly if the snake doesn't do well after regular treatment then this being the only course of action to save it then and only then is it ok.

Am I only one that suspects that either this infection was likely caused by prior void surgery or just a cover?
