New cage for Hots.
New cage for Hots.
Here is a new custom Acrylic cage that I made for a client to house a Western Diamondback. It has a removable divider to make cleaning safer for him. When the divider is not being used, the handle side of the divider is used to fill in the 1/4" gap on the top of the cage. It has a pin lock on the sliding doors. It also has a second locking system of two 1/4"Acrylic rods that lay in the bottom track so even if the pin lock is not in place the doors will not open. To open the doors you will have to remove one or both of the 1/4"Acrylic rods. I think this will come in handy when cleaning. The one door can be locked in place when the divider is being used. It measures 36" long X 16" high X 30" deep with two 4" vents on each side. The vents are 1/8" holes drilled in a circle pattern. Let me know what you think of this cage - good or bad. I would really like to know what BW & JS think of this one?
Take care
Tom

I see the doors slide. How far does that little handle stick out? Far enough to hook the door open?

Hi herp chick,
The clear door handles and the chrome lock housing will slide between the doors when they are open. They only stick out about 1/8". When the lock pin is in place in the lock housing the doors will not open.
Take care
Tom

OK. I am fairly new to keeping hots, and I like to be able to manipulate opening and closing the door with the hook, so I was just wondering. I would also like to know, like Bry, are they very expensive? Thanks!

Hi herp chick,
The price of the cage depends on the size you would need. If you'll please send me an email, I'll be happy to give you an estimate based on your needs. I do not want to post the cost of this cage here as this post was only to show the cage off and get everyone's opinion of it good or bad as I do not have any hots myself and just wanted to know if this was a good design for hots.
Take care
Tom

Very nice design. I am impressed. The only change i would make would be to the handles. As Herp Chick said, it needs to be easily opened and closed using a hook. I particularly like the handles used on Precisions. Being able to close it quickly would be easier with a taller handle. I also prefer vent holes on the rear of the cage. But those are just a couple very minor adjustments. Overall, an excellent design.
The only functionality problem I see is that it cannot be stacked with the divider on the top. But with a sliding front, you cannot exactly pop it through the door. About the only way it could go on the front is to have double hinged doors rather than sliding.
Great Job!
