I love this guy! A buddy gave this copperhead to me last weekend. He was found crawling across the road in middle GA. I love this pattern and cannot wait to breed him.

Nice copper!
And it does have a nice pattern, but is it genetic or just a temp fluctuation during incubation?

Temperature variation during development is always a possibility. There is no way to tell until I breed him. I have not seen pattern variations due to temp fluctuations too often in live bearing, particularly vipers. However, the same thought ran through my mind as well. Stranger things have happened

Muchly cute! But aren't copperheads poisonous? If so, are you stocked up on antivenom?

No, copperheads are not poisonous. They are VENOMOUS All of the U.S. pitvipers are treated witht he same antivenin (either Wyeth Crotalidae Polyvalent or CroFab) So most hospitals will have some. Even though we are in a nationwide shortage of antivenin.

Hmm what's the difference? Venomous won't necessarily poison a human?

Poisonous refers to a substance that must be ingested or come in contact with skin. Venom must be injected.

Well, of all the ven's that BW has, i believe a copper bite would be equatable to a bee sting at this point.

A copper may not kill you, but it will screw you up pretty bad! This one is a PSYCHO!!! It is one of the hardest snakes to hook that I have ever had. He is fast and aggressive. Took forever to get him to hold still for the pic. He hit the floor when i was working with him and booked it under my huge caging system! Took like 30 minutes to get him back out. Even then I had to throw him in an aquarium since he will not hook. Move the aquarium over to his cage. Then almost throw him back in. I have about 3 seconds with him staying on the hook. And that is only because he is so big. If he was any smaller, it would be impossible! Still an awsome snake!

Coolest copperhead I ever saw! Wouldn't want ta tango with it though. So this one jumped from the hook? Must've been a big relief putting him back in his cage, eh? A friend of mine has the Gentle Giants made by Midwest. Very good for those squirmy snakes I hear. Very high quality stuff there in Midwest.

They're nice, but they need to rubber coat the bottom part of the tong as well, not just the top part. That's the only beef I have with mine..

I like my Giants, but I dont think they would work well on him. He thinks he is part mamba! And i aggree that rubber coating on the bottom would be good. We have had a couple 9 foot King Cobras wiggle their way a little too close for confort. One won the battle and got to keep the tongs as the snake and the GG's (Gentle Giants) both got tossed back into the cage.
