hi- first time post on the venomous forum, I feel somewhat out of my depth.
Anyway, thought this may interest some of you. On saturday I went to see a snake park about an hour outside of Cape town ostensibly to see the African rocks. What an incredible setup!
About 100 snakes, with about 85 venomous. Plenty of stunning cobras-Cape, Egyptian,Mozambique spitting, forest, kings, as well as my first look at Water Moccasins(scary snakes ) . He also had green and black mambas, boomslangs, copperheads, and some stunning Gaboon adders.
he also had 6 Rocks(one of whom had bitten 3 months ago, knocking him 4 ft onto his back) ,5 burms(1 at 23 ft ) 3 yellow anas and some redtails.
Was pressed for time but am going back soon, and will take pics; any requests??

ok- it appeared as though Saturday is feeding day( a few pinkies left in the hatchling boomslangs cage, a rabbit with a large bite taken out in the 5ft rock monitor's enclosure, several large bumps sin-graphed along the monster burm etc) and cleaning!!!! day on Sunday. His name is Danie, very personable farmer with a perpetual half-stoned I'm-doing-exactly-what-I-love grin on his face.
His cages are all made from cement and painted creme. He has both overhead lighting as well as built-in underfloor heating. He says that his electricity metre runs like the odometer ona F1 car at top speed
I asked him how the #$%^$%^$%^$%^& he cleans so many cages and he said : "Hosepipe and hoover"
I'll try deperately to get back this week with the camera, and I'll post as soon as possible.
His Egyptian cobra was huge,7+ feet. Whenever anyone goes up to her( why do I call every snake whose sex is unknown to me a female ) glass she comes right forward and just stares at you. He told me feeding her was immense fun
His water mocs were also huge, far bigger than the picture I'd always had of them. His yellow cobras are stunning, ranging from about 5ft to little older than hatchling . The little ones are soooo cutie with their golden hoods and mf'er attitudes.
His Mozambiquan spitting cobra was about 2ft and all itdid was dart its head out of its hidey-hole and spit venomall over the glass. An interesting sensation, to stand and watch a cobra spitting venom right at you ...Oh it was found in someone's bed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My god, but I'm waffling. Is there a pity-length to these posts????
One more story(sorry but I was really stoked with what I'd seen. )
His forest cobras- about 5 of them, ranging from 4-7ft, scary mf'ers(what is it about snakes with black in them that gives a funny cold feeling somewhere in the piot of my beer-fortified stomach )
Anyway, they are in a cage that opens quite close to the ground, and he was sitting down to to something, opened the cage but didn't see one big dude on a ledge to the left, it immediately popped its head on top of his lap. he froze, quite naturally one would think, and it proceeded to slide over his legs and around the corner at an incredible pace. It was l;ater found in the Ladies loo.
gottago
sorry for waffling
