Another Coral snake caught on my street
I have been after a couple for the last few weeks in one neiboors yard and then this one turn up right next door laying along the fence of my friend who has triplet 1.5 year old girls. It was pure luck that one of my sons friends was cutting through the concrete culvert that goes between my friends house next door and the next house. It was laying there and then took off under the fence, or so they said. When I went up the ditch with a flash light it was laying flush up against the fence tryign to be inconspicous. I sent my sons friend for a stick at least 2 feet long nd of course they brought me back soem dried weed stalk.LOL. Well with some finagling I got the very #$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^$%^& off snake in the bucket without getting bit. It was big enough to do some damage too. It was around 22" long and as big aroudn as my index finger which makes it the biggest one I have found around here so far. Most have been in the 12-14inch range. So I took some pictures of it after the capture and then a couple of it being release so that I wouldn't catch any more #$%^&#$%^&#$%^&#$%^& from anyone here. I love snakes and this one was a real beauty with a bright scarlet belly that rivaled any I have ever seen. It would have made someones collection a really nice prize. But I took it back to the cattle ranch behind my hosue and released it to be free. My heart is still pumping though. I really hate picking up MAD corals with my hands!

Not soiled, but kind of wet. I will get a pic if you really want to see.

Yea, uh, I didn't get any of those croc hunter moments with this one. It did try to crawl back up it self a couple times and I barely kept it from doing so with the "stick" the boys had brought me. Funny, it never even crossed my mind to get it close to my face. I will have to try that next time. NOT!

man...I wanna come herping at your place. All I have caught in my yard as far as herps go are anoles, grey treefrogs, 5 line skinks, eastern toads, dekayii snakes and a box turtle.

Nice find. That is a very fat and healthy Coral. And i am glad you relocated it with kids around. Corals are generally very docile, but if a kid picks it up and starts playing with it .......... bad news. Sounds like it is time for yo to get a Midwest Ultralight Hook.
This reminds me. I have great news! THEY ARE MAKING CORAL SNAKE ANTIVENIN AGAIN!!!!!!!!! Now I just have to talk my local hospital into keeping a few vials.
