Today i was over my uncles friends house and he had two of his copperheads caged in one of those chamillion screened cages, i was wondering if this is common practice? The cage was really nice all kinds of plants and stuff & it was locked...just wondering

The biggest problem I can see her is Copperheads have fangs... screen caging allows fangs to pass through them. Whatever you do, don't accedentally brush up against that cage!
In addition, those types of cages do nothing to keep humidity in. It is great for a chamelion if you mist it 3 times a day and have a drip system for a water source, but it's not the best for snakes.
So no, screen cages for copperheads is Not a good idea.

Nope, not for hots (ever) or most boids (depending on if you can keep the humidity up and temps up). Because of the lack of glass, these open air enclosures will loose a lot more heat and humidity than glass, plastic, or wood. OK for colubrids that don't require very high temps or humidity though as long as you can keep the required temps constant. So yeah, Kings will be OK in there if you can get the temps to stay at the right levels.

To answer your question, in my opinion, that is totally unacceptable caging for any venomous species. Not only from a husbandry aspect, but primarily from a safety standpoint. That is a hefty hospital bill waiting to happen, particularly with 2 Copperheads in such an enclosure.

I would say its not really ideal for any snake, unless your keeping it in a fairly warm and non drafty room.

There is nothing wrong with asking questions, thats encouraged around here, and nobody gets tired of it.
Some geckos may do okay in a screen cage, but you have to realize, as many have said in this thread that screen caging doesnt offer much in the way of heat retention and humidity retention.
IF you have a gecko that does well in dry (50-60% humidity) and can do well in room temps, then I say go for it, but for a snake, I'd probably find a glass tank, or if you have financial constraints, get some type of rubbermaid/sterilite box with air holes melted out for ventilation.
So when are you going to go herping w/ me?
