I can't choose just one. Eastern Diamondbacks and Copperheads are up there. But I also love eyelash vipers, Bushmasters, Gaboon and Rhino Vipers, Formosa Island Cobras and Coral Cobras. I love too many! Rattlesnakes are definately one of my favorites to keep.

I would definitely have to say the Crotalus atrox (Western Diamondback rattler) or Crotalus molossus (Black-tailed rattler).

I would have to go with Naja pallida, red spitting cobra. I've seen some remarkable looking ones... but unfortunately my wife is wary about me keeping something that can rain venom, so my current favorite is Crotalus molossus and Crotalus lepidus. Black-tailed rattlers and rock rattlers have some amazing variations and are what I like to term 'pocket sized' crotalids, much easier size to deal with than other species. They also don't have the nasty disposition of atrox and adamanteus, which makes them much more enjoyable to work with - they also do very well in captivity.

All Atheris genera , the African bush vipers. I particularly like the eyelash/horned bush vipers as well as those incredibly cute lil' hairy bush vipers.
Followed closely by Lachesis Melanocephala. Blackheaded Bush master of Cen. America
And , of course, Agkistrodon contortrix , the ol' southern, and always bueatiful, copperhead.
Entropy,
alex

The Black Mamba baby! Dendroaspis polylepis
grows to 14' or so, probably the fastest hot on earth and 2 drops of its venom can kill a human. A full bite can waste an elephant, and they are agressive. 'nuff said.
In North America, I'd have to say Timber Rattler Crotalus Horridus

It's probably debateable, but I agree, probably fastest snake. Hey, at least your sig. is willing to consider, even if it is a crazy idea.
I had a bear of a time getting a 3rd snake into our place, and a bull no less. See the glass as 1/2 full

Aziemops fea (sp?)
Probably one of the most beautiful snakes I have seen in person.
Second to that would have to be the Rhino Viper.
Hey J,
any moment now..........
waits anxiously

I am like , so jealous! You've actually seen one! I wasn't even aware of one captive specimen in the US.
Oh yea. It's Azemiops feae. But i knew what you were talkin' bout. Fea's Viper, or white, headed viper, or tibetan viper. Probably one of the onl;y snakes that requires excessively cool, humid temps in order to live in captivity.
I wonder sometimes if , they infact are feeding these things too much food for their sensitive systems, considering the cooler temps they need to be kept at?
Oh well, sense you like em' so much you probably know more about than i do.
Therr was a guy in the Russian Federation who had a great deal of success breeding them......wish he had an article online!
