Was this snake venomous?
My neighbor just killed this snake in his backyard after he saw his two year old walk by it and it take a warning strike at her.
I picked it up after he killed it and took these pics to see if I could identify it. I couldn't.
Can anyone tell me what kind of snake this is?
http://www.kgjack.com/snakes.htm
The belly of the snake was yellowish with almost no markings.
Thanks for your help!!!
BTW, I live in the woods in Eastern Texas, just north of Houston.

Hard to say. The link doesn't work. You can click reply and add the photo from your harddrive as an attachment. Also mention where you live. That might be a factor in helping to ID the snake.

I didn't know it was so hard to distinguish a snake. Especialy since those pictures are almost alike. I guess were not "braniacs" like you eddie.

Actually, my neighbor killed it. He sent for me to come and remove it, but he got scared it might get away and someday bite one of his little kids, so he chopped it with the shovel you see in the pic. I've already moved about a dozen or so snakes, including a copperhead and a cottonmouth to the wooded area with ponds behind my house. At one point, I pulled a snake out of a tree with one baby bird in it;s mouth before it could get to the other baby bird in the nest. My kids hysterical screaming at the snake, alerted me to that one.
Thanks BTW, for all your help identifying it.
Since we live in the woods near a pond, it isn't unuusal to see many snakes each week but most of them are easily identifiable as non-venemous. My best guess from using an online ID website was a brown water snake buit I just wasn't sure. The patterns, scales and head made me think maybe copperhead but the colors were all wrong. The curious thing to me was how aggressive this snake supposedly was prior to it being killed?
Thanks again! | |
