WOW! Big snake!

I never thought I'd ever be able to post here.
I think we had the biggest Cottonmouth that I have ever seen come in today at work. She was 6 foot 8 inches and 16.3 pounds! I wish I had know that she was coming in I whould have brought in a camera.
She unfortunatly had died and was coming in for a necropsy. She was 17 years old, and had just eaten last week. She was on display at the local nature society.
Only thought is that they had to clean her setup and she bit herself. Next morning she was dead.
She did have a heart based mass and a kidney mass. We'll see what the pathology shows.

Sorry, I'm rambling......I'm just still in shock.

Wow! at 6'-8" or 80" the snake would be the largest cottonmouth ever recorded. The current record is only 74.5 inches. You should defiantly publishing this new record size snake in Herp Review or other natural history orientated scientific publication. Keep the body of the snake intact to substantiate the record and contact Dr. J. P. Ross at the Florida Museum of Natural History in Gainesville. I know he'll want that snake as a voucher specimen.

The people apparently called everywhere to try to get the snake recorded. She said that no one cared. I think she took the body to a taxidermist.
She easily had a 10 inch girth!
They did take pictures at the nature society before they brought her in for the necropsy.
She did have a baby a long time ago, I think they have that one on display also.
