this news website loves snakes stories for some reason.
they post em all the time.
and strangely enough, they are pretty fair and balanced in their approach to it.

This story actually was on CNN last night just before the Reagan Funeral. I saw it and from what was shown it was a collection of Rattlers and a big Burm. Unfortunately this is exactly the type of press that does put the hobby in a negative spotlight. We are keeping animals many people fear.
A good example is the word SHARK if most hear it a since of fear arises deep inside. The same can and often is said of the word SNAKE. It would be in our best interest to obey the laws and educate when possible the general public.
Once a law is written it is very hard to change it but it can be done. It has to be done with support from all of us in the reptile community. However this is a problem I see all to often in our hobby. The "it doesn't effect me or my animal" syndrome. All reptiles and keepers are effected by laws created by people who react on misinformation or emotional fear.
Keepers having animals prohibited by law are a danger to the rest of us. While I can sympathize with them I cannot condone them or their actions when it can and will effect the rest of the hobby.
If you truly love the animals and the hobby as a whole you will obey and work to change foolish laws. It is our responsibility to stand together and fight together to stop these types of laws from occurring.

I dont think this will change the laws in Dallas at least, its already illegal to have hots in city limits last time I checked.
they cant make it more illegal Im guessing.
(aside from stiffening the punishment from it)
Its not just reptile keepers that are affected by peoples fear of snakes, snakes are affected, and it doesnt help when certain people (like this person) that allows extremely dangerous snakes escape and possible injure unwary residents of an apartment complex.

I would venture to say that more people are terrified of snakes than sharks. Sure, if a shark is in the water with me, I am going to be screaming like a little girl. But ALOT of people that are afraid of snakes, can't even look at them on TV without freaking out. I have never seen that response from ANYONE when a shark comes on TV.

I still dont understand how people can even let anything bother them that much.
what else in their lives has gone so wrong that a living animal with meaning and purpose will freak them out so much.
I think it shows signs of deep rooted physiological problems when someone has such a crippling fear of an animal of all things, now being scared of guns, or say, napalm, yeah I understand, but when people get freaked out by a image of a snake or shark, what does that say about a person.
I feel sorry for them.
My sister in law is like that, she wont even come in our house, cause she's sure one of my snakes will forcefully escape from its cage and come "get her" (I make jokes about that, which im sure doesnt help, but I just cant resist)
makes me wonder what happened to them in life that would give them that kinda of crippling fear about anything, animal or not.
