Actually I fully understand how pigs can get ya BIG fangs for such a small head. I dont see any bragging about it though and the fallow up post was very good for kids to see as it shows even experianced people make mistakes. Pig Bites hurt like #$%^$%^$%^$%^& dont they In a private collection Bites should be very rare to never as you should have all the safety tools on hand. However Venom producers or importers can expect a bite now and then as its a inherit part of their job as they may handle tens of thousands of snakes. We must look at the cause and the occupation before making judgement of a keeper.

Well said Scott. WE can differntiate, the general public cannot and the media WILL not.
Hot keepers spend so much time under the gun that we planted flowers in the barrel

Yes that pig bite did hurt like #$%^$%^$%^$%^& and it took 6 months to recover from t totally and have complete use of my hand and arm again. Definatly not bragging though. I was 15 and had been keeping snakes for 6 years and made a bad mistake. I am glad that you have not been bitten Gregg and hope that you don't ever get bit, but alot of hot keepers do and they are not bad keepers just because they got bit. You couldn't say that Bill Haus was a bad keeper and I don't think that even he can remember how many times he has been tagged. And alot of other well known herpers have also zigged when they should have zagged. I know that you guys have a hard time with the media now days and I applaud you for keeping yourselves and the populas safe. Luckily when I was bitten in '80 the media was not on top of things like they are now in that department. I would love to keep hots again and probably will when my son has moved away. I won't endanger my family with my hobby, but I sure am in love with cobras and always will be. So who knows, I may enter your ranks again someday. And believe me when I say that there won't be any more hot bites on this fellow when that time comes. Now we have cool tools like tubes and such so that it is easier to work with them when handling in necessary. Have a good one boys and girls. And be safe!
David

Cool David,
The tool of the trade are much better now then when I started as well......LOL..... I do agree that good keepers get tagged but like Scott said it should almost never happen in a private collection and if it does the keeper should have his or her own supply of AV and a bite protocol ready....... I think if a keeper does not have it and gets bitten it might set off a few more media bells than if someone was fully preped...... I hope your move back into hots is a smooth one....... I do not see how it cant be when you have people like BW and Scott and a few others that are more than willing to help you with all the tricks of the trade...... Later...... Oh and I opologize for the confusion.....

Me own a void NEVER. I would never own one. I do not allow them to be even posted in my classifeids. Come on Please do not put words in my mouth.

Some of the people here treat these voids like there some type of outkast. I would own a void, no doubt about it but It would be as a rescue and I wouldn't pay money or encourage the practice of this. Alot of you are just worried about what other people will say if you tell them you own, owned,or want to own a defanged hot. I believe these snakes can't help what happens to them and being released to the wild is out of the question. I don't think adopting or owning a void is as bad an idea as actualy buying one and having one defanged just for you.

No one said adopting a void as a rescue is bad.
Buying one and supporting the industry is though.
Also it has been mentioned by many people on this site that once a snake is labled "void" this does not make it without venom forever---and if the surgury is not done correctly to begin with sometimes not at all.
This practice of selling voids is a danger to the animals *and* the potential owners.
