hibiscus plant?
i am gonna plant a hibiscus plant or two so i can feed 'em to my uros. my question is should it be safe to use miraclegro or a similar plant food on the plant? i know that sort of thing is ok for plants humans eat the fruit of. and i think hibiscus need some sort of fertilization, and i thought that would be best. i am not too knowledgable with plants. what do you guys think?

I would think that it would be alright to use. Your basic 10-10-10 fertilizer should be great for it.

I think it would be ok as long as the animal did not come in contact with the MG. Are you planting outside the cage and then cutting to feed?

I don't use *any* chemicals or fertilizers on the hibiscus in my chameleon's cage, and it's doing fine. If it stops blooming, I sometimes re-pot it in fresh top soil with NO additives. This usually gets it going again. I'd rather not take any chances with chemicals, although I do think there are natural ways to fertilize, like compost tea. You might want to ask at your local gardening center for an organic fertilizer.

MIRACLE GROW TOXIC!!!
ever put a stick of celery into a glass of water with food color added?
try it... anything you water or spray becomes part of your plant!
Eat whatever you want for yourself as you can make your own decisions, but please dont endanger the critters in your care...
NEVER feed your sweeties ANYTHING that could have come in contact with something not organically approved...
reptiles are much too sensitive and the body mass is to small... you will easily sicken and likely kill them... DONT RISK IT!
i have NEVER seen a site that did not specifically recommend only organic produce... summer is here, start your own garden, plant in buckets and bring inside for the winter... Most herp set ups are PERFECT greenhouses for growing indoors!

I agree w/repunzel anything you put in the plant stays in the plant even root feeding will make its way into the body as a landscaper for years I did learn that hibiscus like to have very wet feet just to let you know hope its helpful
