uro demise

my uro was about 6 mo. old and appeared to be in good health. i came home one night and found him dead in the corner of his tank.he had bled from his nostrils and there was aspot about the size of a quarter in thesubstrate below his nose.
the substrate was walnutshells. i have since read that this can cause severe internal damage and should never be used. any thoughts?

I deffinately agree with not using walnut shells for critters.
The best substrate for a uro, is plain old play ground sand
They pass it very easily, can dig if they want easier, spot cleaning is easy and since there is almost no need to worry about humidity, just about perfect for them
