Morrocan Uromastyx

So I've wanted a uro since I started working at my reptile shop 2 years ago. I finally picked one up at the Daytona show this year, and selected a Morrocan (since they're SO beautiful as adults). Now he's adorable, and eating like a pig, BUT he bites! I've never been bitten by a uro! After reading a little bit more about this specific species, I found out that they tend to be a little more people shy and are harder to tame; I really had no idea that any uro had the capacity to be mean, lol. So I was wondering if anybody had ever owned a Morrocan? If so, was yours ever tamed? Any words of advice? Every time I handle him to try and "get him used to me", he goes ape poop and runs all over the place and is completely terrified. I feel terrible because I'm stressing him out, but I really dont want to have an adult uro that still bites...

Re: Morrocan Uromastyx

He sound great, even more so from this unreachable distance since he cannot bite me!!!

Seriously I would love to see a picture of him (take it from a distance or not at all - please don't spook him. These lizards are so fantastic looking.

Give him the right conditions, a place to hide and lots of time to get used to you. Sit by his cage quietly, reading a book for an hour or so at a time day after day. Only handle him if absolutely necessary. Get closer and closer to him gradually, don't spook him by sudden movements. Leave a worn shirt of yours in his enclosure. Stick with your program and I think it will pay off.

Keep other animals, dogs, cats, away from his area, also unnecessary loud noises, until he becomes more relaxed. Keep his tummy full!!!

Coming from someone with iguanas, but hope it helps....

Good luck!
