Question Mali Uro tank setup?

Hi all, i will be receiving my 1st uro, a mali this weekend, and im buying the tank and tank accessories soon, and i was wondering if you guys have any tank setups, you could possibly show me to give me an idea of how i could design his tank. im getting i think a 45gallon or at least a 35 long. i know some things i could use with my experience with my bearded dragon blaze. but i haven't seen many tank setups for uro's. any help is wicked awesome! and greatly appreciated.

Re: Mali Uro tank setup?

I currently don't have any pictures of my setup. But I can give you a few tips. Truthfully they are not hard animals to take care of.

*Have some kind of hiding area. I have a cave in mine.
*Rough rocks will do wonders for their nails..as well as a nice place for them to bask.
*And pretty much make sure that the temp is up for them.

I know you didn't ask for food tips but over the past 4 years I have found what mine will eat and wont eat. OF course every Mali has their own personal favorites.
*Crickets every once in a while (Mine goes on spells)
*Bird Seed (for small birds)
*Kale
*Thawed frozed veggies
*Wax worms

Re: Mali Uro tank setup?

Here is a website that you should check out if you want to give your mali a good life. Deer Fern Farms Home Page: Uromastyx, Tortoises, Spinytailed Iguanas, Bengal Savannah cats
Doug has raised uros for many years and is one of the experts in America on these reptiles. He also sells supplies specifically tried and tested with favorable results on his uros. I use the uro dust, Miner-al and Mazuri tortoise diet as an important part of the diet I feed my egyptian uro. If you do choose to feed crickets, it is recommended by many not to feed them very often, rather only as an occasional treat. Again, read the caresheets at deerfernfarms for a complete diet recommendation as well as caging essentials and general care. Good luck with your new uro. They are great lizards.
