Zeus's Tail Problems... Continued...
Okay, updating.. I had said 'Hi, this has been going on for a long time now, and I'm really getting worried. Zeus , my uro, has a tail problem. I don't know what it is, but when we got him we noticed that his tail was an unusual color (brown, like baked on scales). We waited until next shed, but it didn't come off. We've been putting shedding aid on it consistantly for about a month and a half, and its not working. When some of the scales do fall off, there is what appears to be damaged tissue underneath. The scales that come off on his tail are brown, sometimes having a almost black rim. When you touch his tail, he jerks away and turns around so you can't touch it. Even if it touches anything else, he'll jerk away from it. I'll try to get pictures, but my camara isnt too good.'
I now have pictures Okay, he has birdseed bedding now, he's eating dole salad mix, readily eats, I've made sure the temps are right, very low humidity.. Any Ideas?

You never answered the questions I asked you in the other thread.
What are the numbers for your UVB light (5.0, 7.0. 8.0, etc)?
How far is it from the lizard?
Is there a clear plastic or glass cover between the bulb and the lizard?
What heat sources do you have?
What are your temps, hot side and cool side, and how are you measuring the temps?
If you don't answer those questions nobody can help you.
The tail doesn't look too bad yet. If you can get your temps and UVB right it will likely be fine. Uros are usually sensitive to having their tails touched so don't worry much over that.

Yes, I do remember telling you... You never responded back, though...
'8.0 UVB. The Basking spot is 120. We have a rock fixture that he loves to bask on. After countless times trying to get Zeus not to attack the ruler, I have discovered the bulb is 6 inches away from the basking spot.
We got a new UVB 2 weeks ago. (And installed a fire alarm too). No plastic covers'
(Or glass covers)
We have a night bulb, a UVB, and a sun bulb. We have a heating pad under his cave. His cool side is 94.

First thing I reccommend is stop with the shed-eaze it will not help most problems. I do not see any bad scales, the overall brown skin looks normal to me. Was it a gradual color change? I have heard the scales darken with age. Wreck can probably help you a lot more than I can, all I know is constant use of that shed eaze is really not good for your critter's normal skin cycles. I hope he is fine, the only thing I can think of other than he is just a color changing spazzy Uro, is does he have anything UNDER his scale(i.e. substrate, rock) that will cause color change and irritaion, but that would start to swell and get infected... well good luck.

It's not swollen or anything... I'm just worried that it's irregular, and the fact that some are flaking off and revealing some wierd tissue underneath worries me, too. He eats fine and he's very active, but I just want to know if there's a problem and how to fix it. Thanks

If you told me, I missed it. Sorry.
OK, your setup is better than I thought. A couple suggestions:
1- lose the night light. Its not needed unless you're in a very cold climate and the herp room is not temperature controlled. Deserts get cool at night, hot in the day. we're trying to maintain a natural cycle.
2- pour that shed-ease stuff down the toilet. Its not useful for any herp, its flat out detrimental to a uro.
Once you get your feeding to some better stuff, as you indicated you were doing, I think it'll be fine.
Did you join those yahoo groups I suggested? If not, you really should, the real experts are there.
