Check out my habitat...good or bad??
I just purchased a Uro Mas and fixed up this "habitat" for him. This is my first pet ever......(im 34) You might be thinking, yikes!
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
88 gallon tank, no screens on top
I have a super UV 7uva/3uvb bulb 48" (overhead)
One 125watt spot for heat.
One cool white bulb also 48" (overhead)
140lbs of premium play sand on bottom
various rocks that I bleached and "cooked" at 225 degrees for 20 minutes.
2 temp gauges
2 humidty gauges
On the "hot" side of tank....it's 120 degrees
On the "hot" side of tank....humidity is at 30% and still dropping
On the "cold" side of tank....it's 80 degrees
On the "cold" side of tank.....humidity is at 60% and not changing.
Should I add or change anything??
Thanks for your help...

I need to reduce the humidity in his habitat.....any ideas how?
After 15 hours of hiding...he's out and about moving around and eating.

wow that looks the kinda place that wouldnt have that much humidity to begin with! can you leave a larger opening or allow more air in from the top? I presume it has a screen top. or if theres just the screen in place and the humidity is from the room you could get a de-humidifier for the room. does he/she have a large water bowl? maybe a smaller one would help! other than that I have no more ideas sorry!

I have a totaly open top and no water is present whatsoever. It's just playsand on the bottom.
I find it hard to believe that both humidity gaugues are reading wrong. Right now they are both at 55%.

What should your humidity be? Just a thought but check your room humidity see if thats where the humiditys from. IMO it must be as you only have sand in there? Either that or your gauges are wrong? You can get sml cheap de-humidifiers, may do the trick for the room, but if its your bedroom you may wake up with a horrid dry throat, and may wanna move viv.

In the petstore the humidity gauge read under 20%...but then again the cage was about 10 gallons. I'm located in the Ft. Worth Texas area and the gauges are analog. "Mad Max's" cage is located in the living room...so there's no moving it now. Weighing in at over 250 lbs....it's staying right where it is.
The only way to make the humidity gauge go down is by pointing the "hot light" directly on it.
Here are a couple of pics....the first one is the hot side..he seems to love the heat.
the second is the cooler side.

Your humidity is fine. You don't need to go any lower. I am concerned about the way you're measuring your temps. Those analog stick-on thermometers are worse than inaccurate. What you need to do is get either a probe thermometer or a temp gun and measure the temp right on the basking spot. Chances are good you'll find its 150 or so, way too hot. Measuring the side of the tank on the hot side is not giving you a true reading of the basking spot.

Yea, those are good. Big Apple Herp sells similar plus dual probe models, even one with a humidity probe. Temp guns can be had at Sears for around $50.

I agree setting those thermometers on the glass gives a very inacurate reading! Remember the glass is much cooler than the inside of the tank therfore the thermometer shows cooler. You can get some good laser temp guns, Just point and bingo you get an acurate reading...well more acurate than those thermometers! I'd give one of those a try. As for the humidity what should it be at?

50% or so should be good. High humidity is bad but it doesn't need to be a zero either.
