Lion on the Loose?

Just had a giggle at this, seems to be the start of a new urban legend

ITN - Lion 'on the loose in Belfast'

Seems the streets of Belfast have a new threat!

Re: Lion on the Loose?

Recently, we had a "mountain lion" sighting in my area which turned out to be a bobcat.

Re: Lion on the Loose?

Hehe, I've planned on going to Belfast this weekend. The republic's in recession and Belfast is much cheaper!! I better keep an eye out. To be honest, it wouldn't surprise me. There is a huge trade in the illegal exotic cats over here. People have been known to keep leopards in their back garden.

Re: Lion on the Loose?

We had an alligator sighting here at a local lake. From a 14-15 year old boy. The lake is fully enclosed by houses. There have been no other reports or evidence of a gator, no slides or other basking evidence.

Re: Lion on the Loose?

With the illegal animal trade around these days it won't surprise me at all. People by a cute cubble leopard but just dump it after the first time it scratches the owners arm to shreds.
A while back there was a leopard loose in Pretoria (this is a city) in one of the botanical gardens that would kill some dogs. The wildlife guys shot it in the end and judge it has been staying in that area for a few years already.

Re: Lion on the Loose?

I grew up in the country. Loxahatchee, Florida which is where the drive through park Lion Country Safari is located. We lived close enough to hear the elephants , chimpanzees, and lions roar (really cool!).

In 1969 the lions did manage to escaped the preserve into Loxahatchee! However I did not live there at the time. But I'm sure there were a lot of rednecks "hunting" lions!

I have many stories I can tell about that place!

Also down the road is where the original Tarzan lives. My ex-girlfriend was his neighbor. She came home a few times to have a cat (black leopard in her driveway once) on the loose. But a few years back one of his tigers "bobo" got loose and the police shot it. That made national news.

here's a read about Lion Country Safari:
